If you can dodge a wrench...

Yesterday I got an email from David asking if anyone was interested in joining his dodge ball team for Friday (every year the fitness center hosts a dodge ball day).

I was telling Vizma (from my team) about it. We decided it would be funny to forward the invite to my boss (Tom) and another guy (Jason) from our work team and tell them I signed us up. So I sent it to them.

A few minutes later Tom comes over and asks if I am serious. I play along and say yes. Then he starts asking why some others from the team weren't on the invite and what time we were going to play. I 'fessed up and told him it was a joke. He was disappointed because he decided that it would be a fun team thing to do.

So, I guess the joke is on me... our team is playing tomorrow.

Closure

The other day, Blackie (pink tail trigger) was not out swimming around. Bad sign. No sign of him when we fed the tank that night. Really bad sign. Ben said gently, "You know that probably means he's dead, right?" And yes, I knew that. But I was still holding out hope. He hadn't been sick as far as we knew so it seemed possible that he was just hiding (OK, not really, but you can't just give up).

Tonight while I was making dinner (bbq ribs, twice backed potatoes, corn bread muffins) I looked in the tank and saw his body. While I really did know he wasn't with us any more, it was still nice to see his actual body (albeit gross) to know that for sure.

Wrapped around her little paw

I will be the first to admit that I spoil Zoey.

On Wednesday night after volleyball (we won all three games, BTW), I came home and let her outside. When she came back in, we were in the kitchen getting something for me to drink. She gave me the look - meaning either she's tired, hungry, needs to go outside, or thirsty. I asked her what she wanted (we have "trained" her to bark in response to this question if she needs to go outside). Instead of her normal one bark reply, she kept barking and barking (What?! Timmy's in the well?!)... finally she moved out of the kitchen to where her treats are. And she nearly destroyed the box trying to get a rawhide. I laughed and caved and gave her one.

She has never been so insistent on getting a treat. I wonder what that was all about.

Funny Malachi Story

A week or so late, but anyway...

While Sara and Malachi were staying with us, I got to feed Malachi while Sara was showering. I made him a PB&J sandwich. I used a little star cookie cutter to cut the sandwich for him. I put the little stars on his tray and he said, "Stars!" And then he proceeded to sing "Twinkle Twinkle."

How cute is that?!

Lil Miss Sunshine

Friday night Ben and I watched Lil Miss Sunshine. We both got a few chuckles out of it. It was different than I expected, but we both enjoyed it.

Last night Grant and Patrick came over. We played some Munchkin (the space edition). The first game turned out pretty close... Patrick was at three points (OK, he wasn't close), Grant and I had 9 and Ben won. Ben is a good player, but what helped him was that on my previous turn people smacked me down so I wouldn't win, Grant wasn't able to pull a monster, Patrick wasn't in the running leaving Ben to try to win it. He pulled a 15 monster (or something like that) and he was 23. The only thing I had to stop him was a +3 to a monster... doesn't really help.

After games we went to El Loro for dinner and then the boys went to a movie (American Ganster) while I stayed home and studied.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, Sara and Malachi's plans changed so they weren't with us. :(

Hot Deals, Hot Car

Last night Cassie and I went shopping and out to dinner to celebrate her new job. We found some super hot deals. I saved over $120!!! The best part is, I didn't even spend that much. My total came to $85. Crazy, huh? It was at NY&Co. They had a pants sale, 2 for $39 (originally $45 each) and I got some tops on clearance. And Cassie is a AAA member, so they gave us an additional 15% off. Nice work!

This morning when we got to work they wouldn't let us park in the ramp. Turns out there was a car fire. We had to park in the lot, which normally would be fine, but today it is super cold! (MUCH longer walk to get inside) I'm so glad I was wearing my ski jacket and mittens. No one was hurt in the fire, but the car that was on fire managed to burn some surrounding cars.

A Moment and Dresses

These past few weeks seem to have been crazy busy for us. Last Sunday afternoon when I got back from David's, Ben and I were on the floor and just talked. It was so nice not to have other distractions (except the occasional Zoey kiss). It made me realize again how nice it is just to have someone to talk with. Even if it's about stupid stuff. Those ten minutes or so were the best of the week.

In other news, dresses were ordered last night! We tried them on again at the Wedding Chapel and we both still loved them. My mom was able to come too. She approved. I haven't decided yet if I want to post pictures of the dresses. I have been slated to make the veil for my sister... and possibly jewelry... We'll see how that goes.

Sara and Malachi are coming back to stay with us for the final days before the go back to Texas. I will post pictures of our visit as soon as I remember.

Smell of Winter

When I was a kid, I loved the smell that lingered on my dad when he came in from shoveling snow. It's really hard to explain the smell, but those of you who live where it is cold, you know what I am talking about.

This morning when Zoey and I came in from our walk, the smell of winter was on us. I quickly took a few breaths to enjoy the smell before it dissipated.

Even though that smell only happens when it is really cold out, I still love it!

We found it!

This weekend was filled with looking at wedding and bridesmaids dresses with my sister.

On Saturday we started off going to the Bridal Center. I had found my bridesmaids dresses there. She was unusually decisive and we narrowed it down to two dresses for her and a couple for the maids. Only problem was that the dresses were a little more than she wanted to spend, and we would have to rush all the dresses ($100 fee for her $40 for the rest of us). Bummer.

Second stop was at the Wedding Chapel. We found another 10 or so dresses for her to try on. Again she was quick to decide what she didn't like. We both fell in love with one. And it was cheaper than the others. And we don't have to rush it! We found a bridesmaids dress that we liked too. And it came in all three colors that she is trying decide between (although, I guess if it only came in one color, then we wouldn't have to decide colors).

Sunday we went to David's. We didn't find anything. Well, there were a couple of dresses that were ok, but they cost more than the one we liked. Why bother?

We are going in on Wednesday to get measured and to order them. Yippee!!

Just in case

You came here before I told you it was ready... Here is something for you to read. More to come!
